Looking for a Map Maker
« on: April 29, 2010, 06:26:27 PM »
Hi, I have had a design for a couple of years and have never been able to find time to sit down and work it out in Hammer. I'm rushing through this post because I have to get to class, so please forgive any errors.
I'm looking for someone who is willing to make a map about the size of dod_harrington. I have a picture created already and will upload it onto this post.

Anyone willing to help would be awesome. You can message me on Steam Friends @ acetamino.

Looks like a decent design, I am working on a couple of projects right now and I will definitely work on a rough sketch layout for you once I get a bit of more free time in the next week or so.

Hey! Thanks for offerring your help! I actually sat down with some free time these past couple of days and made it! I'm super excited about it. I have to put in capture points still though, and work on the flow of the map. I'd be happy to let all of you play test it as well.

One question I have is when trying to run the map from Hammer I get an error message saying, "bad surface extents" then coordinates. Any suggestion what that is? I dont think I have any holes in the map, and I check the coordinates, and cant see any. I changed the sky texture and tried loading it again, and day of defeat froze on the "loading local game."

Appreciate any help, thanks again!

sounds like a bad brush to me. copy everything into a new map file and go through and delete brushes you clipped one by one and run it to and when you delete one and dont get the error when compiling you know which one needs to be fixed.

thanks! I got that fixed and the map compiled. Although when I ran through it, I got 50 fps, when I can easily get 100 on any map. The scale was obviously off :[.  Would you be kind to recommend a good map height and size (was hoping something like harrington size) or is it trial and error?

Did you add a light_environment and light entities? Without lights and a light environment the map will have very low FPS.

Hey, Naucroknight.

Would you mind if I send you my .rmf file and you help me with entities (special lighting / flag zones / ladder). Also, just having you look it over and give me your opinion on it.. I need some help with some of the open spaces.

I'm still getting fps drops around the map. I added Light_enviroment, but I dont know if I'm missing other things that would affect fps.

I'll be checking back.
Appreciate all the help so far!

I still have yet to make a good ladder lol. They are very difficult. I can definitely give some pointers and I am sure Spirit can help too. Just upload it to filefront and post the link!

Thanks Midget! Hopefully it people will like to play it. I dont know about people coming back to this game though when its so old :[.

here is the link: http://www.filefront.com/16381015/dod_guernica.rmf

I was hoping the boxes in middle could be a 2person capture. Then the other flags on each side of spawn at some point. I have a lot of little things to add too, but right now ive been concerned with the fps, and scale.

basic.wad, dod_lennon_c.wad, and I think dod_kettle.wad, or kettle_b3.

lennon - http://www.filefront.com/16386829/dod_lennon_c.wad

kettle- http://www.filefront.com/16386843/dod_kettle.wad

kettle_b3- http://www.filefront.com/16386853/dod_kettle_b3.wad

Sorry about that! Thanks again for the help, though!
