Prayer Devotion - Jan 18
« on: January 17, 2011, 08:59:43 PM »

Blessed are You, O Lord, God of Israel, our father, forever and ever. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for everything in heaven and earth is Yours. Yours, O Lord, is the kingdom, and You are exalted as head over all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You are the ruler of all things. In Your hand is power and might to exalt and to give strength to all. Therefore, my God, I give You thanks and praise Your glorious name. (1 Chronicles 29:10–13)

I will proclaim the name of the Lord and praise the greatness of my God. (Deuteronomy 32:3)

Pause to express your thoughts of praise and worship.

O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your wrath,
And do not chasten me in Your anger.
For Your arrows have pierced me deeply,
And Your hand has pressed down upon me.
There is no health in my body because of Your wrath,
Nor peace in my bones because of my sin.
For my iniquities have gone over my head;
As a heavy burden, they weigh too much for me. (Psalm 38:1–4)

Ask the Spirit to search your heart and reveal any areas of unconfessed sin. Acknowledge these to the Lord and thank Him for His forgiveness.

As a servant of Christ and a steward of His possessions, it is required that I be found faithful. (1 Corinthians 4:1–2)

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. But let me flee from these things, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. (1 Timothy 6:9–11)

Pause to add your own prayers for personal renewal.

May I put away all of these things: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from my mouth. (Colossians 3:8)

My activities for this day
Special concerns

Grant that I may be used to open the eyes of others and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Jesus. (Acts 26:18)

    Special opportunities

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. (James 1:12)

Those who suffer according to the will of God should commit themselves to their faithful Creator in doing good. (1 Peter 4:19)

I am from God and am an overcomer, because He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)

Pause to reflect upon these biblical affirmations.

Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits;
Who forgives all your iniquities
And heals all your diseases;
Who redeems your life from the pit
And crowns you with love and compassion;
Who satisfies your desires with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (Psalm 103:1–5)

Pause to offer your own expressions of thanksgiving.

Closing Prayer

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God is my rock; I will take refuge in Him,
My shield and the horn of my salvation,
My stronghold and my refuge—
My Savior, You save me from violence.
I call on the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
And I am saved from my enemies. (2 Samuel 22:2–4)
