Server Administrator Usage Policy

In an effort to promote the best experience for all our members and visitors we would like to take this opportunity to layout some guidelines for the usage of server admin. Please understand that you as a server admin have accepted a great responsibility, one that requires a great deal of personal discipline. Administrating a server is first, a privilege and second, a responsibility.  Any abuse or neglect of either may be cause for removal of administrative privileges.  This is a clan wide usage policy and while we recognize that not all games use the same administrative tools our expectation is that the spirit of the policy will be followed in all game servers.

What is the role of a server administrator?

To maintain a safe, clean gaming environment for all who enter, so that we may be able to give witness to the love of Jesus Christ we have in our lives and bring others to a closer relationship with Jesus.

How is this accomplished?

There are many ways of accomplishing this goal. Many scriptures speak to the way we should relate to one another. There are hundreds, but one that says it so clearly and simply that for our purposes you would need only to reference it: Jesus said, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Matt 7:12

This passage is the backbone by which you are asked to use your administrative powers. For many this will be the most difficult aspect of your administrative experience. Our first instinct as human beings is to deal with rule breakers quickly. The problem with doing so is that we miss an opportunity to be a reflection of Jesus to those around us. Instead, people can be left with an experience that is no different than seeing crime and punishment on the television.

It is the goal of CoR to show God’s mercy and grace to all that visit our servers and forum. There will always be a point which will require your intervention. If we can’t achieve the desired behavior from someone after following the command by Jesus then those causing the disruption should be removed.

Prior to taking any administrative action:

Are you the highest ranking administrator (if not, defer to that person unless told otherwise)?
Make sure you have applied the Matt 7:12 principle.
Get a steam id number.
Get a condump if you intend to request a ban.
Record a demo if you suspect hacking.
Ask yourself this question, “Is this action because of a rule violation or because I can?”

Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.  (Colossians 4:6)

Communicating on the servers:

Possibly the best way to handle or defuse situations on the servers is by communicating effectively. If done using Matt 7:12 you can be sure that you will be handling things as Jesus would rather than berating people and giving someone what they deserve.

Kindly ask that the bad behavior end publicly via amx_tsay.
If the behavior continues or gets worst ask again publicly and specifically using their name.
Also send the person via amx_psay a request to stop or be slayed or kicked.
If having done all of the above in a respectful way hasn’t worked then slay/kick your choice.
If the person returns with better behavior, great, if not, kick again-request ban.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Ephesians 4:29)

Miscellaneous things to remember:

All Admin commands are tools for maintaining the service and not for personal usage.
If you’re not the highest ranking admin still pay attention and point out violations.
Consistently apply all the rules all the time.
Admin is not a toy allowing you to do whatever you want.  Abuse will not be allowed.
Bind spamming of lower/non admins should be minimal and respectful.
No spamming admin chat or say commands (including tsay hello and goodbye).
Map votes/ ban votes - not allowed without the permission of the highest ranking admin.
Seasoned admin should mentor newer admin whenever possible.

We encourage Ban level admin to:

Ask lower ranking admin to handle minor situations.
If you are not using your CoR name make yourself known if you intend to handle issues via admin chat.
Be an example of the type of administrator we want all our admins to be on our servers.

If you have questions regarding the usage of your administrative privilege please post them in this thread or ask your General. Your acceptance of the above policy is expected and required. We thank you for showing yourself to be reliable and worthy of such a trusted responsibility.

God bless you,

General Council
City of Refuge
In Christ,

Bryan Stiekes
